Default Using the V on hackle

    Ok
Ive been using the tips of hackle for jig tails and adding V sections to beef it up.
But what about using a the V for the actual tail?
    Waste of time?

    (Only the soft part)
    Good. Bad?

Trying to get more jigs out of a feather.

    Thanks

Actually some jigs are made with only the V's. The original gray jig is tied using V's only. I personally like this style as it keeps the bait smaller. This seems to help with short strikes I feel like. I probably tie more jigs with just V's and the occasional small tip.

How many would you put on a jig?

I too have tied using just the V's. 2 or 3 is usually how many I used. Really depends on how full you want the tail section to be

I usually do 3 or 4. Depending on what I have cut and have available. I don't like wasting feathers. I actually keep little leftovers in a bag. I'm not sure there is a right or wrong way just what looks good to you.

I just tie them in like normal. When you tie them it sort of forces the barbs back. The attached the green, white/green, and gray ghost are all just V's. If they have any tip it is very small to blend in with the V's. Actually if you look at the top pink jig it has a very small tip section you can see. I cut my V's a little longer 1/2" or so for longer tails and then smaller 1/4" for shorter.

The original Gray Ghost had no hackle tip and was just the little V's! So think it would just fine and have tied a good many jigs like that!

Just pinch them together and tie them in. When I use a tip I lay it down first and then I put 3 V;s on top and I pick them all up at one time, then I make sure to pinch them together from the side as best I can, then tie them all in a one time.

However just using V's will work fine! Then just pinch and tie in.

These are Hackle tails that I wanted to try and they have no tip!
