Interesting reads, thanks!
This comes up over and over again and for good reason! First most don't understand what happens in water, even clear water and I have a couple articles for you to read and maybe you that don't understand will.
Let me say what I believe. Regular colors are very nice as long as you can see that color in water depth your fishing and colors start to loose their color pretty fast even in clear water. I also believe that if you use Florescent or UV colors they will hold their color much longer and deeper. Personally I don't really think it matters much which one you use as both are going to give you visibility much more than a regular color! I also believe there are times and conditions that the Gray or Black and Blue is at it's best. We all should know that all Chartreuse is Florescent! I will stop my part of talking here!
FL Colors Note: Be sure to note they start off talking about Florescent Red, but then change to all Florescent colors.

Pretty cool read. Thanks Skip.
Good reading. Thanks for the info
I wish it applied to freshwater - especially water that is tannin stained or green with suspended algae.
Lure contrast is key IMO and color is only one factor.
Thanks for shining the importance of color in nature.
BTW chartreuse comes in non-fluorescent opaque and non-fluorescent translucent :
Opaque non fluorescent - top lure:
Fluorescent opaque:
Translucent tails that are non-fluorescent:
Fluorescent pink and orange translucent:
Green sunfish have bright fluorescent orange fringed fins:

Just not sure why I would want non florescent Chartreuse, but that I guess is just in the soft plastics. The two Chartreuse colors in feathers is FL Chartreuse which is the green one and FL Yellow which is the Yellow Chartreuse. I have not fished soft plastics for crappie in something like 20 years. Still do use it for bass if I get out after them. I have gone to flies for my bluegill fishing for the most part.
On the non florescent Chartreuse colors in soft plastics I would just look at as a shade of Yellow.
I guess most think the name Chartreuse is the Green version, but it all started due to the Yellow color, besides all this the name Chartreuse comes from a French Lacquer that has a Yellow color.

Back when I was bass fishing chartreuse was yellow. Now it seems its green. Heard both as well Chartreuse Yellow and Chartreuse Green....
