first jigs tied: my turn

Couldn't go fishing today, so I set up my vise and tied a few.
Lower right was first jig tied, upper right are two of the JDM Daiwa jigs.
Gonna throw them in front of some trout tomorrow on my new rod.



I ordered some more materials today, I only had a few to tie these with. Hope they work - I'll get better the more I tie, right?

They look pretty dadgum good to me. I definitely need to add some flash to my next ones. Are you painting your jig heads too???

Not painting.
Top left is a Litewire Hooks jig, my favorite longlining jig from CDC member Curtis Hobbs.
Lower left 3 and lower right one are from ebay bag-of-100 specials 1/16th oz multiple colors, but the hook is a bit too small for crappie IMO, but work for bream or trout. I dug them out to practice with, cutting off the barb and collar with small diag cutters.
Top 2 right side are Daiwa Gekkabijin jigheads from Japan, needle sharp, expensive, but they work awesome. These 2 are 1.5g #8 hook.

Like I said, I am after trout, mostly because it is so dang hot, it is nice to sit on the cold waters of the Chattahoochee river, coming out of Buford Dam at 50 degrees year-round, making a fine, but completely man made, trout fishery. I typically throw small jigs and small plugs like Rapalas. Caught about 15 yesterday.

All your jigs look sweet! Interested to see what they do on the trout bc always wondered what our trout would think of my jigs. Speckled trout. Please keep us updated.

Nice start for sure, but personally I like to stop the chenille at about the hook point or barb at most! Flies usually tie different and they tie it all the way to the bend.

Then on my jigs I take the chenille right against the head and that hides the thread.

I definitely need more practice wrapping the chenille, and working the whip finish tool.

When I tied these, I had @SK's Crappie Catching Adventures video up on the computer right by the vise, following along. That guy can sure tie a purdy jig, and they work, too.

That's what I basically did. I watched many videos including SK's over and over until I finally started to tie my own. Nice job, they will get easier and better.
