Yarn and thread are good and a feather duster could also work. Maybe you have some such feathers from hunting or know a friend that hunts. Lots of other bird feathers are available, but be sure not to use one that will get you in trouble!

I just gave a guy at work some jigs I tied with yarn. Let me look and see if I have anymore I can take pic of. If not I will tie something up. I actually use yarn pretty regularly now especially once I brush it and make it like the dubbing.

My first attempt at tying was this spring using vise grips, a bench vise and sewing thread on a piece of threaded rod. Super glued the tread and colored it with a sharpie and used my beard hair to make a jig I call Ole Grey Beard. Caught a bunch of crappie and bluegills on it.
