    Default Vise Question

I currently have the AA vise. When I get to pulling or putting heavy pressure on this vise the jig falls out. Seeing how this holds a jig now has me wondering about the PEAK vise since it uses roughly the same clamp style. Does anyone have any experience with the Peak vise or can comment about this? I've been kicking around the idea of a new vise but haven't taken the plunge yet. Wondering if it won't hold the jig well then maybe a Regal is what I need. I hear good things about them. I really want a rotary vise though.

Just because one vise has issues doesn't mean others will. I have had and use the Peak and has good holding power. I also have use the Renzetti SW Traveler that I still have as a back up and it also holds jigs very well. Anyway just mean to say you can not judge one vise by another unless they are the same MFG and maybe not then. The good vises I have tried all have exceptional holding power!

Thanks for comments guys. Was able to finally get to a Bass Pro and check out the Peak vise. Just curious about the holding power since the clamp style is similar to the AA vise. Hear great things about the Regal head. Tempted to go big on Norvise though. Just don't know so still thinking on them. Big investment when something simple like I have works if only would hold a little better.

I have the peak vise, been using it for 5 years plus. No problem with holding power and I am very heavy handed. I tie a variety of size hooks and styles, mostly use 140 thread due to my heavy wrapping style. Have problems with 70 thread breaking. Will use 210 denier also for the big stuff. No problem with the holding power of the vise.

I tye with a lot of pressure and that's one of the big reasons why I use a Regal vise. The rotary feature is nice - if you use it. You can switch hook size or style (sickle or round bend) with zero adjust.

I wouldn't doubt Peak is a good vise but I never used one. Maybe this winter I'll give one a try especially for the rotary function. I've been using a Regal for over 30 years and have nothing negative to say about them. Regal was the first better vise I bought back then. I tied a ton of trout & panfish flies down to #28 and jigs from 1/100 to 3/8 oz. with no adjusting. One shortfall of my original Regal was getting the jaws open enough to hold 5/0 trebles I was tying for muskie spinners so I got a second Regal with big game jaws. They don't slip.

Been tying a while, and have never heard a bad review on a peak. I use a Renzetti but mostly because of the way I got it from another member that has now passed. A long story, but not as long as the story of all the jigs I’ve tied on it. The Renzetti and the Peak both have different jaws available so size isn’t an issue. I have an older style before the cam lock, and have no issues with it.

Well I’m thinking if I do upgrade it’s between the Peak and Renzetti Traveler.
