    Default 3D Eyes

So I’ve decided to get some 3D eyes to apply to my jigs. I’m squishing ball head jigs to apply the eyes. Mainly 1/16 oz. is there a rule or problem about squishing them to much? The test I did if I squish hard I can fit a 5mm eye on them. Or should I buy 4mm or 3mm to allow more room and not squish so much? Is there a rule about what size eye or just whatever?

My thought would be the more you flatten, the more chance you take with the lead possibly becoming loose. I'd either flatten less or buy a pill head mold.

For 1/16 jig heads I use 4mm eyes. You can use a 5mm if you want that big eye look. My general rule is 3mm for 1/32, 4mm for 1/16 and 5 or 6mm for 1/18. I squish my heads with some smooth jaw needle nose pliers. It's much cheaper than buying the pill head jigs. I also get my eyes off EBay from China. It takes a month to get them but they are much cheaper.

Ive done what you speak of, but used a small smooth jaw vise. It was easy cuz i just turned the handle to the same place every time and they were pretty uniform. Ive squeezed em pretty hard and not had any issues from that. Harder lead will start to crack just a little around the edges when you get to going too hard. Never had any come loose.

I have a vise and thought about it. The needle nose pliers is pretty easy and convenient. I do like the uniform aspect and will check into it before I start making many. Right now it's just testing and playing before I buy any eyes. Thanks

I bought a $5 pair of pliers at Harbor Freight and took my grinder and ground the grooves off, then smoothed it off with a file. It works great. I tie 90% !/16 oz, and I have found that I like the 4mm best. I also get mine from China off of Ebay. I superglue them on, then go over them with Sally's Hard as Nails.
