    Default Getting ready Part II - The Autos

    Last 2 outings for the CNBGS was anchoring (I-Pilot) and casting a I/32nd roundhead jig named the Automatic (aka Auto). Extremely simple jig to tye and only needs thread, Krystal flash, and reptile rubber. Jigs are EC #6 LNs, and the glo green are using a #6 Matzuo.

    I have heard of those before. Yours looks very nice. I wonder what the history is about these?

    Thnx for the comments and ?s guys

    Came up with the Automatic concept about 7 years ago with my little fishing buddy Fabiola (aka Faby) when she was 12 years old. I had been playing around with silicon legs - after getting spanked by a friend using little Gitzits. She was getting into jig tying, and after watching me, wanted to use pink rubber legs on a pink jig. We came up with the arm and leg configuration and also we tyed the Semi-automatic - same materials but all the rubber is swept back into the tail - more by accident then on purpose.

    The name comes from the day we tried them out - the Automatic caught 7 fish with 7 casts. The Semiautomatic was 5 for 7. Included are some old pictures of the evolution - using Reptile rubber now;

    Those jigheads look great! I have seen pics of countless bluegill and redear that have been caught on the autos but have you ever caught a trout on one? Don’t most of the lakes in Cali have trout? Only reason I ask is I was thinking of tying some to try on trout.

    Thnx guys

    VCM - we've caught everything on them - probably because we tip with crickets too. Use to have hold over trout (footballs with pink meat) at LP until the Strippers showed up. In SoCal reservoirs most of the stocking programs are to feed the bass. There are regional parks they stock in the fall and winter - some with exotic trout.
    I'm sure you'll hook up, especially if you tip with a meal worm or trout bait.

    An observation the other day leads me to believe that the fish think this pattern is a Dragonfly or a crawdad (tyed in neutral colors).

    Lots of these guys are buzzing the boat and they are attacking the jigs. While casting the jig out or lifting jigs out of the water on the retrieve.
