    Default Eyes

Do you all paint eyes on the crappie jigs you tie or use stick on eyes (or no eyes)??

If you do paint or use stick on, what do you use and what's your method?

Just started painting jig heads, and they are looking pretty good; but plan to tie some as well

    Thanks in advance!!

I use the cheap stick on’s. I use the smallest one which I think is a 5/32 size. Most of my heads are are 1/32 size. I put a coat of sally Hanson hardener over them. Some I just paint the head. I really don’t think the eyes really matter.

I paint just Black eyes on my little Roadrunners and don't use eyes on other jigs I tie for the most part. I do have some heads that take a glue on eye. The stick on eyes are really not going to stick without super glue or something like a Clear Vinyl over coat. I sue to paint eyes on jigs if someone wanted some that way, but I got away from that.

I do a lot of mine with the stick on eyes, but I also don't worry about the eyes much- I can not tell the difference, most of the time. My 2cts.

I use a dab of Loctite gel super glue to attached the stick on eyes. I use a exacto knife to remove them from the pad and my bobbin to press them in place. It's the best method I have found to attach my eyes. I order my eyes off EBay from a outfit in China. It takes a month to get them but they are so much cheaper than any place else.

I do put eyes on, I don't really believe a predator fish knows what an eye is but I do believe they know that the end with the black dot is the direction the minnow will run. They attack in that direction. I use rust-oleum oil base paint and apply with a nail set. I do apply before I bake my jigs since I do all powder coat. Hope this helps, Grumpy

I've looked all over the forum for ideas on how to add eyes. I found that I use a lot of round jig heads and I am in love with those 3D sticker eyes. They got nice colors and shine to it as well. My biggest issue is that it is tough to put it on a round jig head. Therefore, I hammer the side of the jig head until it's flat on both sides and then put super glue on it and add on the stickers. here's a short vid on it:

For jigs that are tyed to imitate baitfish or critters with eyes - yes. 3D clear coated 4Xs, 2Xs after attaching to a painted head, then 2 more Xs when it's done. Be careful your clear coat doesn't have UV inhibitors. You can tell looking at it under a black light - it's cloudy.
Attractor jigs usually not - most patterns are tyed with some other gimmick to get the bite.

No need to use a hammer. Get you some long handle needle nose pliers and flatten both sides of the round jig head at one time. I purchased mines from Walmart and they work great.
