    Default UV Clear Fly Finish

Has anyone used this stuff? How do you like it?

Skip, I'm sure you have tried it...or still do for some jigs. I saw a You Tube where a guy built up a minnow body and coated it wih this stuff...then used a small UV light to cure it. When he was done it had a shine like a live one!

The brand he used was Loon Outdoors but there are probably others.

I have tried several of the UV glues and all are very nice, but some remain sticky, but you can alway coat over that with something like Sally's. IMHO the best brand stopped making it just because it was a side business and something he did for fun, but his government contract was more important for him and why he quit, just no time to do it. Love the UV glue though as it sets as soon as you hit it with a good light! The stronger the UV light the faster and better it's cured. However the sun is the best cure so you can always use the sun sometimes! They make it so many ways it's hard to tell, but if anyone really wants to know the best now I can find out! They make it in thick, thin and so many ways and reason for all of them I guess!

I use this type on my own personal tying jigs

for it becomes a preference on how one can use it

there is a UV light curing process and or direct Sun light for a final

Here again depends on ones type of commitment to tying

    For the outcomes are rewarding

I just looked and can't even find one that looks like my light! I have had 3 of them, the first was a Loon and am sure they probably have a better one now, but it was weak. Then I got one that has a lot of bulbs and was better, then my Clear Cure Goo came out and I needed a stronger light for it, that one retail was like $69 and wholesale was like $39? I don't remember for sure, but I am close. That one cures fast and good! I would have to ask my guys now.

You are absolutely right on the light

for those UV glues seem to all take a different style UV lighting

I have four different types producing anywhere from a
Laser, to a Multi Flood light for the curing
I then whenever try to expose them to direct Sun Light

    Hope this helps

Sounds complicated...think I'll just stick to plain jigs for now.

Just getting back into tying after about 5 or six years. I've finely got a place to setup and places to fish with them again!

One thing, well a couple things to keep in mine on UV Glue. First it is costly thing to get into, but it is very cool stuff to tie with and make jigs and flies. It makes things that use Epoxy so much easier and faster, don't need a turning wheel to dry like Epoxy. One of the things I like to do is the hard body ants, oh and I also like the idea of using it to embed the stem/quill of a palmered Hackle into the glue for protection and looks. See Ant below.

So unless you have some things you want to do with this, then maybe better to not buy, I don't know your ideas about it. Just want to give a clear picture for you.

Very cool Skip! I've always known you are the master of tying. I think I'll try it....after I get back in practice. I just put up a small shop building and plan on building a tying/reloading bench in it. The guys are pulling electric to it as we speak! It will still be a few weeks to get it all set up, but looking forward to it!

I have to go along with Skip

I did not intend to discredit the use of UV products
for what may work for some can become an issue on the curing time with others

Yet as mentioned there can be some outstanding results
