Also check out walmart or other store for their leftover christmas junk. They'll just about give it to you if they have the right stuff left over. I bought a couple of red and gold bows that had tinsel of the perfect length on them. Works great since it hasn't been in a roll before.
Also know some fly patterns use flash tied in and wrapped around the hook shank for the body so it doesn't hurt them when tying the flash from a spool.
Also es there are other low cost ways to get flash and I also did that a lot, but never used a lot of it and it still sits here. I would probably use the left over boxes of tinsel if you want a low cost way. Also watch how wide flash is, I like the thin stuff because it has some action that goes along with my tails. Maybe it's just me being picky, but I have some of the wider flash, but just don't use it, but this too is just a personal choice.

Pinch the strand with the curl opposite your thumbnail. Pull the strand gently across your thumbnail. The tension will take the curl out - too much will curl it the opposite.
Use the same technique to take out the curl in flank feathers or hen hackle.
I assume you are talking mylar and not real metal tinsel. Make sure the hook shank has a smooth layer of thread under your wraps.Or if tail materials are on the shank wrap thread over it to make it as smooth as possible. Also using Christmas tree tinsel can be too wide for many patterns so the thinner material should wrap flat. Your wraps need to be constant. Do not over wrap then space it out.Practice just doing the body. After a couple of trys with the right size material it should come to you.
Sorry guys but a buddy said they were baiting so we went yesterday and froze and caught a few. I use flashabou now and like it a lot but and old jig I had years ago had 2 pieces of tinsel the same size as the spooled tinsel that separated the colors down the side of the jig. What is magna flash and where can I find it?

Probably Crazy Angler or JS Flyfishing will have it. Also if it's because of the size, there are a lot of other kinds that are great and wider. Look at JS Flyfishing to see their pictures. Probably easier to see there than Crazy Angler. Then buy from who every you like.
