Tied a few for Steelhead

I tied these with a Mustad 2X hook for Steelhead, but I bet if I shot these under the docks the crappie would like em too.

Having fished for steelies in both the rivers and streams in addition to
Lk. Michigan, I think those will do VERY well ! I've always been curious
as to why they are attracted to the maribou jigs. Keep up the good work!!!

Grew up steelhead fishing the many rivers and great lakes in Michigan. Those look great. Been awhile since I braved the cold January days looking for the fresh steelies in the Manistee river. We had tons of tricks up our sleeve in those days. Many of them passed down from the old timers I shared the banks with. My dad used to tie flies for a steelhead shop and that is where I learned. We tried tons of combinations and came up with some pretty good ones over the years. Simple yet effective.

I will say that the winter time drift fishing was a light bite. Anything that mimiced a wiggler (may flie larva) was great. Used to carry the real thing in baby food jars. They used to also make rubber ones in several colors that have worked in the past as well as hand tied wigglers that worked well. Spawn was not the norm during winter fishing however a single or double egg type fly or a floss fly worked well. We used to also tie bare hooks with one loop of colored floss and that worked well.

Dad and I were talking the other day and discussed an old trick we used to use that was killer and NOT many people to this day know about. You know those little colored marshmellows that you put in hot coco? We used to carry a ziplock back with those in it. Let them get nice and hard, and bait our hooks with a single colored tiny marshmellow. I've landed tons of winter steelhead on those things. Plus they make a nice snack on the bank!

Interesting tied Breamfisher, look good and not sure they wouldn't work on crappie too?

Dave most fish are attracted to marabou because it's action in really unmatched with other types of materials. Even just sitting still under a cork marabou will just look like it's breathing and moving it looks like it's swimming. Really nothing is better and also a little more fragile than other things, even Hackle. Still my choice for spring and fall crappie!

I've never fished Steelies but the first one got my attention. Nice work. The Spotted bass in TN would have had a good time with those.
