Eyes? How important

in the beginning before there were any any fancy hand-tied jigs on the market is say back in 1963 or it could of been just before that when I was a young man all we had was ahead and marabou and that was it no eyeballs and I have caught hundreds of crappie. eyeballs are for the fisherman it definitely makes the jig look better so that's why most of us jig guys put them on their do you know that every time we add or paint a eyeball you could add about $.10 or more depending on who is tying the jigs. I have to admit one thing I do enjoy fishing with the jigs with the eyeballs which I never did ever thought it made a difference the only thing that I think that the fish are going after and I'll swear it on my grandma's Bible is the action in that jig intercourse different shades of color.

I'm 50/50 - I have jigs that I poured/painted and tyed before I tried the 3D eyes and caught just as many fish as the ones I put eyes on now. But eyes on the jigs sure does make em look good!

Well, my 60 years of fishing experience tells me that....some days they will bite a blind jig and some days they want eyes......I always give the fish a chance to let me know....and it varies day by day also. Same with painted heads and unpainted heads.

I have never seen a minnow or a shad that did not have two eyes. If I am going to imitate a minnow then I am going to have eyes on my imitation minnow.

I do admit using them on my Roadrunners, but just a black dot and do fine with that. Actually for spring that will be what I use probably at least 95% of the time, but I really need to try some of the other things I have come up with and for sure my little in-line spinner jigs! I use to just long line regular jigs a lot in the late 90's and early 2000's, but once I could get the unpainted Roadrunner heads I never looked back of spring fishing.
However though in summer I do not put eyes on my jigs that I use, but maybe this year it's time for most experimenting with eyes. I just need to get some heads the size for the stick on eyes I have. I have plenty of the 1/8 oz but no 1/4 which I do use a good bit in summer and also want some smaller ones to try as I have a ton of the 3D eyes for that kind of head.

If you do a search on Google of a fish. Or bait fish. Or look at a crappie. What is the first thing you see or notice? The black eye. Fish have the big black pupil. Even the bait fish. Most fish hit and then will swallow the fish head first. Weather the hit the fish to stun it and come back and grab it head first or its initially swallowed head first.
I'm sure they key in on that back eye. Ever look for rabbits in a brush pile? What do you pick out? That back eye.

With the size jig heads we use for crappie fishing I think a black jig head helps them key in on that head/eye. Or what a black jig head would resemble anyway.
ESP if you use a light colored jig head a black eye would help. Like on white or pearl. When using like dark colored head purple/blue/green or like orange or red or something like that I would not bother.

I think it can help depending on the eye..... I bought these to try since they should add some flash to the jig...
