I have actually never dyed any feathers. I have heard that you can do it with Kool Aid though. Maybe we can get Skip or Snake River to jump in here and help out a little bit.

Sorry, I couldn't be that much help. the jig looks good. I would try and have the chennile and the feather at the back join in more of a fluid way. Basically try not to have the tail feather come to a point where it connects to the chennile if that makes any since. Keep at it. It is a very rewarding hobby.

LOL, I just reread this and realized that you said tied and not dyed. My apologies.

It actually looks better than my first ties. Also, you want your chenille to end with it being even with the end of the hook. So, maybe one look less than you have it there. I still think that jig will catch fish.

As far as what type of feathers to us, the world is wide open on that one. Starting out I would stick with Marabou or Hackle. Hackle looks like what you have tied in, in the picture that you posted. Marabou tends to look more fluffy in my opinion.

Like I said, keep at it. It looks a lot better than my first jigs.

I found this video. I have not watched it all the way through, but this program is generally pretty good. We have several members that have actually been on it.

I think it looks good although the tail is a bit long for my tastes and your chenille looks to have one too many wraps started too close to the point of the hook. There are many videos on you tube and you can use bits and pieces of each technique.

Here are two videos I think are kinda neat

I have found some helpful videos on YouTube. At least it helps to see it done, gives me a better understanding of what I read in the tutorials.
