There is a good chance that before long Blakemore will hammer some of them. I can't say why I think this, but your right it is not legal to sell pony/horse heads and I think most of them don't realize how much risk they are taking. It uses to be that not many were doing this so it was not worth it for Blakemore to get lawyers and take them to court, but I do believe they realize that the numbers of them being sold have become a large enough number that it's worth taking action, but we will see.

I have Roadrunners that I have the right to tie and sell, but I have permission from Blakemore and I buy my heads from them.

Well as for myself I dont make them but I have seen lots of them doing it,also know for a fact that last year at the collinsville show in Ill that TTI had reps there and all kinds of guys were selling right there as well and not one word was said to them.Sure makes me wonder if they even care about it anymore.

When you question these folks selling them you get told to mind your own business that they'll do what they want. I point out to them that Blakemore is a sponsor of this site!!!!! and they don't even seem to care.

Many of the folks on this board that know me also know that I pour both types. I quite frankly get extremely tired of answering PM's from people asking me to sell them some and the answer is NO NO NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now if someone offers a really good trade of other tying materials that's a different story, as you can trade the ones you make yourself.

Do you really think a RR pony/horse head is that much better than a roundball with a swivel?

I'll bet 9 out of 10 crappie can't tell the difference.

Skip, you are doing it the right way. For others who do not have the proper permissions, you are risking your family fiinances and homes if TTI Blakemore comes after you. Is that a risk you are willing to take?

So let me get this straight....

You can buy Blakemore pony heads at Bass Pro (or other places) tie a body & tail or stick on home made plastics and sell them.

You can make pony heads at home and trade them for stuff someone else has.

You can not make pony heads and sell them with or without body & tails.

Blakemore is the only one that can legally make & sell the pony/horse jig heads.

Bass Pro (and I'm sure others) can make a Stump Jumper copy of the Roadrunner because the shape of the head is a minnow not pony...

    Have I got it?

Blakemore already tried going after people about 15 yrs ago . If I remember correctly it was a lawyers Idea . The pony head mold is a very very old mold design .

I think it would cost more in sales to basically protect the shape than it would be worth. It is a little different story with the name issue . The last time that happened during my days as a business a lot of the mom and pop stores pulled Blakemore products of their shelves .They continued to make and sell the house lure or anglers bought molds and made them themselves .They sure didn't get anywhere with Do-It the molds are still being made .
