Tim/Burk. just came from Rathbun. Crappies are Very CLOSE but not quite. Main lake is clear and 64. I didn't get on the lake til 10:30am and got blown off at 2pm. It RAINED so hard. By about 1pm I found them, but only caught 5 before I loaded up. Those 5 wieghed 5# 1oz. Had to come home for some "honey-doos", going back down tomorrow eve.
P.S. Turkeys are goblin all over around the lake.

Rain - Das Goot Ya! I know you know where to go in those conditions Roger! It should really be a hot bite down there on Saturday! I'd be coming, but I am headed to Geode to go beat up on some Hub cap sized Blue Gills! I only keep fish a few times a year, and plan to fill 2 coolers. I will try & take pics & post them if I can. I'd rather catch Crappie, but 'Gills are tops in Lake Crisco!
Full baskets to you guys!

PS. Roger, please chew on Larry for me about them moving our lake to region 4 if you would. I already chewed on Darryl about it. Thanks! And about those Turkey... just stuff some Morrels down there throat, and stick 'em in the grease! That'll shut'em up! LOL
thanks, will talk to Larry. We need Mark Twain in too. Just got up, glad I'm not having to fish in THIS wind.

Well we never made it down.
We had made plans to go down about 1 month ago the weather forecast didn't look good so we decided to cancel. Its hard to get my buddies that are scattered around the state all together, so it looks like we won't be making the trip this year.
maybe next year! :(
maybe next year! :([/QUOTE]
Burk, this next week to 10 days will be fantastic. You won't regret it if you can work things out. :D

I'm from Creston and just wanted to ask wats the chances from the bank. I've seen the lake once and know it's BIG!! or what about the bluegill . I would love to tie into some of them :D
Daydreamer, Wish I could help with the crappie situation at Rathbun, but haven't heard much. The reason I jumped on here is because you also asked about bluegill there .Rathbun has been mentioned in a number of articles on why some big Iowa lakes do NOT hold a good population of decent bluegill. Please understand that Rathbun does have bluegill, but not enough decent fish to be worth targeting. The few times I get to Rathbun ,I don't ever consider bluegill as a second choice. They do however have a good population of cats if you need a back up. Wish I could help more, Mike
There's a lot of lakes within an hour's drive of rathbun that are great for BIG gills- Wapello, Shimek Forest, and Sugema just to name afew. Try these if you want a gill over a pound in size. Dave
