    Default Coralville Reservoir 9/23/2015

Caught a nice walleye today at Coralville Reservoir while crappie fishing... and a nice little mess of crappie. All caught on 3/8 oz chartreuse jig with the little blue-tuxedo curly tail shown in 2nd pic. Walleye was released immediately after the pics were taken. Mess o' crappie... not so lucky

I got out late and caught them between 2pm - 4:20pm which was exactly when I boated the walleye. High barometric pressure, east wind and all. Didn't think they would even be biting but just wanted to get out and enjoy the day. The weather should be stable for a few more days so they should still be biting. They were along the bluffs real close to the bank, I kept the boat in about 10-12ft of water and cast jigs to the bank and fished them REAL SLOW... bumping the bottom most of the time. The walleye hit probably 2 feet from the bank and most of the crappie were within 5-10ft from bank. Once I caught the walleye I didn't catch anymore keeper crappie for about an hour so I headed in and loaded up.

Well it's that time of year again... the fall bite is picking up. Got a nice 14.25" slab off a brush pile last week that got me a master angler certificate... as well as a 13" Black crappie. Last Friday I got 18 on minnows and jigs.

Got out last Sunday to give it a shot. Was a really slow day.. caught one small eater but released it. Caught several bass though. It was very windy, high pressure that didn't help. Water temp 52, it won't be long till the crappie are moving to the shallows... great fishing is just around the corner folks!
