Default PICO Cranking at Lake Lemon

First time out as been busy and launched at 8 am. Water temp started out at 55 and ended at 2:30 pm at 58. Wind started out at 5 to 8 mph and at 10:30 am it was 12-15 with a gust at 23 making the fishing serious work. Tried shallow 5-9’ and was seeing nothing on the mega 360 or SI/2D and moved out to 10’ to 12’ ft and anything other than that depth didn’t catch fish or see much fish. I tried creek channel as fish were there and did pick up a 12” but the bays at 10-11’ depthis where I would find bait balls and schools of crappie. Speed had to be 1.4 mph or they just wouldn’t hit as some hits were light as I lost 3 nice fish as they topped the water they were so light hooked. Caught couple 13” bass, couple of gills, 6 yellow perch hammering PICO Crome Clown as well as several crappie. I found 2 large schools of yellow perch in 11’ of water and as I would pass over each I would pick one up keeping a 9” one. Kept 16 crappie 10” to 14 3/4”. Most were 12” females with 2 being males when I cleaned them. Ran the cranks about a foot to 3 ft off the bottom and thru bait balls picking up one each time I would see fish on the screen of the mega 360 and SI. But they were finicky as a hour later pick another one up in a pass thru. Not a lot of fishermen on the water today, but the guys fishing the banks were catching dinks as well as one boat spider rigging with minnows would have to cull fish to get keeper fish. Water was really nice blue green and had cleaned up and hate to see the rain in the next few days as weatherman is predicting 2” or more so it will muddy alittle. Slow day,,but,,it will get better as I saw lots of schools of crappie out in the middle picking one or two at a time and they haven’t really busted up yet. Hot colors today, Chrome Clown, Blue Boogie, Killer Bee, and Yellow Jacket.

It’s starting to happen, great report, fished Monroe today, caught 15, lots of dinks of course. But managed 3 over 14, largest was 1 lb 13 Oz, Corp is dropping water fast. Brush will be a thing of the past unless more rain coming soon. Name: IMG_1228.jpg

Good report. I have seen some pulling jigs in 8 to 10 fow doing ok. I caught a few while pulling but my buddy wanted to pitch jigs to topped out weeds and brush. Never found any over 10 doing that unless we let the jigs float down into the deep weeds. The bite all but died at 230 when the sun blared out of the clouds. Kept 15 nice eaters each. Thinking some fungi should be showing up in the patches.

Few years ago, saw a fishing guide with a small cooler full of yellow perch. If you can find the schools,,easy to catch with smaller baits. I had the little buggers slamming Crome crankbait and not getting hooked but did catch a half dozen. You wouldn’t think they would hit a crank bait as big as the bait is verses the size of a yellow perch’s mouth. First time out with my new helix 12 MDI G4N with nothing but the Mega 360 plugged into it. Bigger is better as the screen of the 12 is showing a way heck of a lot more fish than the MDI 10 G3N’s screen. I could actually see the 2 schools of perch after caching one and waypointed them to run thru them later as time progressed. Both schools were a mile apart also so there has to be more.

I bet a small jig with alittle silver tinsel mixed in it would be a serious bait on those schools of yellow perch.
