Never been skunked pulling jigs at Lemon.
Anyone been to Lake Lemon recently? I was thinking about a trip at the weekend. I’ve never been there before and I am looking for any suggestions, minnows/jigs/trolling/single pole/etc. If anyone is really feeling generous a starting area would be helpful.
Never been skunked pulling jigs at Lemon.
All reports from other lakes where they are catching crappie is they are being caught in deep water. Lemon’s average depth is 10’ except the creek channel. If I were going to fish a starting place,,check the first big island just straight out from the launch and north side is the creek channel. Your electronics will show schools of fish and baitfish in the creek channel,,,Follow the creek channel east and west. If there are other crappie fishermen,,,keep a eye on them if they are fishing the channel. Your electronics will determine your depth the fish are at.

Riddle Point Launch near swimming beach on south side of lake. Long line jigs along creek channel, or find schools and jig fish them. I’m totally artificial, but minnows can be used with jigs.. Water gets up to 42 or 43 degrees and I will go to long lining Crankbaits. If you try the banks as cold as the water is,, don’t think you will find much other than maybe a few little ones. Banks the past couple of years just haven’t been good at producing large crappie for me. And I’m more of a open water/structure fisherman using SI, DI, and Mega 360.

Longling work good in 36 degree water?

The colder the water,,the slower you go. Maybe 0.4 mph with a lighter jig..and thin line. 4 lb with a 1/16th or heavier for deeper water. Experiment with speed. My best color is chartreuse or chartreuse/black,,,,purple with chartreuse tail..Road Runner heads/blades with the colored bodies in for lemon. I like hollow tubes,,and will inject crappie nibbles in them and even dunk them in Slab Sauce. Try everything for cold water. But for me,,it’s slow going in extreme cold water. If I’m bass fishing this water...my fav. Bait is 1/2 black jig with number 11 uncle josh pork frog on it especially on cloudy days,,sunny,,,extreme slow white spinner bait,,,I like a whitetail mess with a number 3 size treble hook on it. I have 6 bottles of Uncle Josh still and now uncle josh is back for 2021 making their bottles of pork again!!!!!

That longling is a different ball game if your pull jigs at .04 why wouldn’t you spider rig

You can spider rig also. I also push jigs off the front also using a 3/4 in line weight with a 3’ mono leader to the jig. My normal speed on long lining is 0.8 to 1.0 mph, but extreme cold water sometimes the fish are slow to take a bait and sometimes presentation is slowed down. Same goes for vertical jigging,,,sometimes your presentation of the bait at the depth the fish are at, is just a slow foot raised up and held at the depth for the light bite. It all depends how active the fish are going to react to the presentation of the bait to them in extreme cold water. Experimentation upon finding fish is needed sometimes to entice a bite. Then again,,in the winter, sometimes you fish all day without a bite and fish might go into a feeding binge that on lasts for 20-30 minutes and during that time you will catch them. I don’t have the patience to fish all day without a bite anymore to wait on them to feed. Especially bass in the winter can be that way.
