Guy I used to work with went up there every year for 15 yrs or so and fished for them, know he fished Trail Creek but cant remember exactly where or how. He caught quiet a few I do remember that and some really nice ones, best thing to do would be to do a google search for local bait shops in the area and call them and tell them your situation, would more then likely point you in the right direction.
I do know guy I worked with took a boat.

I fish for them every year when they move up close to the creeks on the main body of water. But that's always late June early July. They move in and move back out pretty fast. Look at the INDNR reports. They are pretty lacking, but they keep the big lake updated.

Thanks for the quick reply's. I have not been able to find a fishing-bait store in the area that is currently open. However I talked to the northern aquatic biologist 2 weeks ago and he recommended early September as a starting point. The water temperatures in trail creek has drooped from lower 70s to mid 60s. This is a very good sign as this will help the fish become more active. He also suggested early June as a good time to fish the streams for fresh skamanias. I work as a flyfishing guide in Pa and guide lake Erie steelhead fishermen in the fall so I am familiar with stream steelhead fishing. I did download a public access map of Trail creek so that should be of some help. It seems like every state has good and not so good social media information on fishing. I was very impressed with the return call from the biologist. I think they all try to promote fishing so I assume they all try to do the best they can.
