Default Fall Boat & Rv Sale Sept. 25-27th

Just a FYI, the Annual Fall Boat & Rv Sale held at the State Fairgrounds is cancelled Sept 25-27th. It’s not due to Covid -19. It’s due to the fact, the boat dealers didn’t have enough boats in stock to Sale as they are not getting new boats in stock that they have ordered from the manufacturers. Boat sales are thru the roof. Same for RV Dealers..their top models are sold out even tho they have some units. I know of one central Indiana boat dealer that currently has 78 boats sold and only 4 boats in his show room and waiting on delivery from the manufacturers and it may be as late as Nov. to fill the orders. Boat sales are up more than 75% nationwide as well as Rv Sales is thru the roof. Super low interest rates are available right now also.

Do you think the stimulus packages are working? I think the extra $1200 and extra free time has boosted the outdoor activities of a lot of people. I have been checking with our bicycle shop and they are in the same boat. (Ha Ha) He said they have a waiting list of 85-100 people interested in bikes, both new and used. The backlog from the factory is still huge since they shut down in the spring. I hate to see the show cancelled, but it makes perfect sense. If you don't have boats to sell, why spend the money to set up and rent the space. From what I have seen, I am not sure we need any more boats on our Indiana lakes and reservoirs. Also, there might be a bunch of new used boats coming up for sale in the next couple of years that are a result of life changes to jobs and families. We'll see.

I think more than anything,,low interest rates coupled with people are gearing their lifestyles to staying closer to home and not traveling due to various lockdowns if certain states as well as countries. Air travel is a pain. A lot of exhibitors I have contacted had to cancel fishing trips to Alaska, Canada, Costa Rica, Mexico, and are fishing in the US instead. Harley Davidson, bike sales, atv and UTV sales, swimming pool sales, bicycle sales, RV and Boat sales are way way up. Dealers can’t get resupplied. Right now Sturgis Bike Rally is on,,over 250k will attend...I cancelled going to it as well as a couple other events due to crowds and my age being 70 even tho I am healthy and never get sick,,but also a smoker. Mecham Auto Auctions just had a very successful auto auction at the St. Fairgrounds selling tons of high class vehicles. People that don’t travel or vacation as much tend to funnel those dollars to family items to keep the families occupied locally and it is what it is. It’s one of the reasons,,locally we see more boaters, more jet skiers, more kayakers, more camping locally at our lakes. Granted,,it’s stimulating our local economies but increasing the lake activity. fishing license sales is up and also hunting license sales is increasing so look for a increase in hunters this season as due to restrictive travel. I think this will not change for the rest of 2020. To answer your question on stimulus packages..yes, it’s helped the local economies and businesses out.

Depends acreage and size and ruggedness for me to hunt State as I never worry about another hunter where I have stands. I have one stand at the bottom of a 850’ tall ridge 1.5 miles off road. One stand where you have to hike another 1.5 miles back in god forsaken cut timbered St. forest. One half mile behind house at a elevation of 900’. It has to be a worthy deer for me to even take a shot. And a meat stand 100 yds from front door. Bet I can get you turned around and ya walk wrong direction to nearest road or walk into a 250 acre swamp. It’s a real pain to drag one out with a deer cart let alone wait till dark and drive my atv back that deep and sneak one out that way. I’m not getting any younger. And I hunt by myself. I have been sighting in guns and crossbow since last week being bored and sitting around, putting trail cams out and scouting already. We got hammered severely by EHD last year so will be picky where I hunt this coming season so in all probability will be moving some stands around. Mosquitoes after all this rain are wicked in the green jungle.
