    Default Something new

A buddy and myself are thinking about hitting Salamonie/Missy Thursday. Both new to crappie fishing. With either of those lakes be a good place to try being newbies? Not looking for anyone holes. Maybe which lake has better numbers, or should be fish brush, bays, just something to go off of while we learn. Or if someone knows of a better place we should try in the vacinity. Thanks for any advice. Plan on using minnows and jigs

I am hearing that the coves are really starting to produce. Water temps are slowly climbing, though maybe not so much this week, but I agree that the fish should be moving shallow soon. I don't fish Salimonie, but I would be spending my time in water 15' or less if I was headed to Mississinewa. Good Luck.

Thank you. I’m sure I won’t be running to fast. Probably stay close to wherever we put in at being we’ve never been there. Should we be looking for coves or something in particular ?

If you fish salamonie, be careful. Launching out of Dora go out straight until you hit the river channel. With the water down still you got a good chance of meeting rocks if you start going right, right at the ramp.

Caught some there there other day.

Thanks for the heads up. I’ll be fishing out of a Ranger walleye boat. Do you suspect me having problems with depth

No, but there are some spots on salamonie that can be dangerous when water is low. There is a long point past the little island down from Dora, line of buoys, and that long point was just under water the other day. Be easy to run up on it. If you have a graph with a map just stay in the river channel when you are running.

Just right of Dora, there is a big rock flat before you get to the river channel, runs a good distance and it is normally about 7ft at summer pool. Right now about 2ft. I run around it without issue, but I've fished it since 1980 out of a boat.

Mississenwa has some of the same dangers, not everything is well marked and when water is low they both can be a little bit dangerous if you don't know the trouble spots.
