I wouldn’t fish there if someone drove me there, launched my boat, bought my fuel and gave me a 100 dollar bill.
Crappie that you can read a newspaper thru.
Indiana has stopped caring about fisherman. They cater more to pleasure boaters.
Don’t even have garbage cans at boat ramps. Can’t afford the manpower to maintain them. Sad

Dont fish it. Leave the lake alone for everybody else to fish.

The one critical thing about Patoka that makes the lake hard to fish is lack of weeds and weed bed cover. You have to adapt and go back to structure fishing and rely more on your electronics to find the fish now. Patoka is kept at high water above the summer pool to keep from flooding the farmers out below more so.

Patoka Lake water levels are controlled by the Federal Goverment's Corp of Engineers not the Indiana IDNR. Just wanted to throw that out there.

It's true that the lake levels have been way too high. And the high water levels have killed the underwater grass. The grass needs sunlight to thrive and with too much water over the top of the grass the sunlight can't reach the top of the grass and the grass dies. The grass will come back if the lake levels get back to a stable water level.

The crappie that I've caught at Patoka were like little footballs. Even a short 8" long crappie had a lot of meat on it. But that was years ago. I've not fished Patoka in many years.

goes along with what a game warden told me several years ago. On a stop and check he asked us what we did when we caught small fish, we told him we threw them back. He then said PLEASE don't do that, if you don't want to keep them throw them up on the bank anyplace except back in the water. This happened in the South Lick Fork area.
