    Default Jon boat pods?

Just bought a John boat and I’m taking it to have pods welded on. Anybody have pods on their boat? Better worse? Worth the investment?

Pods? Maybe you have a tunnel Hull? What are pods?

I don't know anything about pods, but I did see a guy at Eagle Creek that had a big chunk of styrofoam lashed to the back of his 8' jon boat. Looked a little sketchy but he said it worked. Not for me.

They are called sponsons. Years ago I had a small 10 foot Sears Jon that me and my fishing buddy would pretty much over load. I epoxied on the sides just under the water line
some foam sponsons made for canoes. They were basically pool noodles cut in half. They added some extra flotation and stability to that overloaded boat.
Most of time I have seen them on the transom of jons to support a larger/heavier outboard. I think they also effect the boats planing performance. The rear ones are called beaver tails.

My nephew has some on a Jon that he uses for bow-fishing. My buddy took it to KY lake last week and I watched him stand on the back corner to throw a drift chain in several times. They make the boat a lot more stable. I'll try and get a picture of them.

Picked up my new 16’ John boat a few days ago from the shop. Got the pods welded on and I can’t wait to see how it performs! Its only a 25 merc but This boat should out perform my 17’ crappie boat with the 50hp on it.
