    Default Easter Fishing

Hey guys I have a 4 day weekend over Easter and the wife and I would like to take the boat and camper out somewhere to fish for some crappie, will the spawn be starting by then in southern Indianan like dogwood or the sort? or will I need to head further south for some good fishing

    Thanks

If weather stays like it has been Id say you need to go further south, but if it would get warm and stay warm till then maybe..also depends on rain/lake levels etc.
More then likely more like end of April here.

They are dropping Cataract about a foot a day. They could have it normal pool by April 21st. Dogwood is pretty hammered and reports Imget from a couple of friends is the fish are smallish. West Boggs will get hammered as it’s hit hard right now since it’s stocking. You can catch crappie to 11 inches and maybe by then the gills will be hitting the beds in 3 to 9’ of water and they are really nice gills. Best bulemgill fishing and red ear I have seen for a long time and it won’t last but a couple more years as pressure will kill the fishing. Lake Lemon will be hot for crappie but no camping there, you would have to camp at Monroe. Monroe will have good crappie this spring in my opinion but it’s 12’ up and muddy right now all the way to dam just like Lemon and Cat. Patoka, is Patoka and going thru a stage change as crappie is super small, Bass is limited, but I keep hearing of a few nice walleye being caught off points and islands. You really have to know how to fish them at this lake and Patoka has sucked on fishing the last couple of years. Brookville, has good walleye and you can catch crappie, catfish and bass also. I personally think Brookville is a good lake, but it’s super hammered by the walleye fishermen. Just have to wait and see how spring turns out but I think we are in for good spring temps, and think we,will have our share of rain. If it rains here, it will probably rain south as well, but, Check the Kentucky forum out as they have a lot of lakes to choose from with good camping. Enjoy this, spring and fish!

I wouldn't plan to go south so fast. Things are trending upward, and it doesn't take much to get the water warming up to where they need to be. Everything south all the way to Mississippi has got the same rain we have. Fish have an internal ticker and will move up when they can. I'd say by late April or even earlier it will be the spawning fish you're after.

I was at Shakamak a few days ago. Water temps were in the low 40"s but they are catching fish. Crappie and bass. Nice camping also. 3 lakes to choose from.
