    Cool Fishing At Cataract 05Jul18

Me and my buddy John drove down to Cataract (3 hrs each way, I'm from Northwest IN) to try and catch some heat wave crappies. It started out slow. We fished the narrows along the rock wall and got nothing. Not much seen on the Helix either.
We then manged to catch some eaters and few jumbo wanna beez trolling crank-baits and road runners tipped with minnows north of the Lieber ramp. There were so many fish marked at 14 to 18 feet. Vertical jigging the marked fish produced enough the make the cooler stink. We had to bail on account of a quick moving thunderstorm that moved thru the area. Maybe fish fry on the Weber for me Friday. I gotta get gluten free Bisquick (I have Celiac disease, which means no wheat) and a re-supply of Old Bay.

Good haul for a shortened, hot summer day. WTG!

Looks like you did good. Noticed the boat setup with the rod holders along the side of the boat and the way the trolling motor is mounted on the side of the boat. Did you troll the boat sideways to cover more area around the boat? I have a Bill Dance Crappie Fishing Video and in the video one of Dance's friends has his boat setup like yours for trolling sideways.

When we where trolling crank baits the rods where pointed some what towards the back of the boat in a traditional way. Later on when the breeze picked up a little we kind of let the boat "crab" in the wind while dragging jigs. During this I used the trolling motor to keep us following a 14 foot contour. We do tend to move through the water side ways on account of my boat not really being that big. Usually we have long rods rigged with 2 hook crappie rigs with minnows and have a few other rods with jigs. I usually hold and vertical jig with one rod targeting fish as they appear on the graph.

WOW, you did better than my #1 Grandson and I did. We were right where you were but only caught maybe 20, 10 keepers. I guess we cleaned out the little ones for you.
