    Default Early Mushroom Report.

You wouldn’t think you would find any mushrooms as cold and snowy it has been, but found 4 early blacks in neighbors yard where it’s constantly sunny when the sun does shine, last Sat. We get warm sun this later this week and warm rain by weekend, and it might start but I still think in the deep woods the ground might be alittle cold yet. Just a FYI!

I went Saturday I didn't find any mushrooms but managed to take a header 12 foot down a spoil bank after tripping on a vine. I was so fortunate it all happened so fast. I looked up to see a large rock at the bottom of the pit turned my head and the rock struck me in the head and ear. A bit dazed but no injuries other than a few bruises. I got up a little later and actually hunted a while yet. I was very lucky, stay safe out there good luck.

we are not as agile as we get older. I did the same thing couple of years ago and saw white stars. Lol. I went out yesterday, traveled 16.5 miles on atv checking early grey and early blacks and only found 2 after 5 hrs of hunting and checking. Ground is not warm enough even tho we have the wetness in the big woods areas in most places and now, with last nite’s cold and a freeze warning out for tonite, cold will set it back for fungus to grow. Can’t win on the fishing or the mushrooms.

Best to go with someone if you are not sure of what your picking. Morels, beefsteaks, puffballs are easy to identify, others are alittle harder. Be safe.

Yes calendar says it is time to go ground temperatures says it is not. I have planted very little garden. One barometer I use every year when the asparagus is coming up and growing fast the mushrooms are also out in numbers. It has never let me down.
