Default This year the copperheads are viscious and aggressive!

This is way too late in the year, but the copperheads are still molting this late in the year due to the heat and so far, the wife and I have killed 19 out of our yard and the last 30 days, they have been mean, aggressive, to the point, I got on Cabelas and purchased a pair of Knight & Hale Snake Chaps for 40 bucks. Then the wife got her nephew and wife to buy a pair each as they run a lawn service and had been seeing them also. Day before yesterday, her nephew weed whacking got hit twice by 2 copperheads, one about 3.5 long and the other cracking 4 long over 3 dia and had these Chaps on. Needless to say he was alittle freaked out, but happy he was not bitten and was telling us he could hear the loud thump feeling each hit above the ankles about 6. Watch out if your hunting and walking in the weeds especially in this warm extremely dry weather as the dang snakes are still molting and mean.

The question I have for anybody that knows the answer is, why are all these copperheads still molting this late in the year??? This is October and we have had snow before but hot and dry this fall now.

How far south in Indiana are you? I know there are rattle snakes in Brown County, never have seen one. My wife swears she saw a copperhead near Lake Lemon.
I don't want anything to do with the critters.

In addition to the snake chaps, I'd have to order myself some Depends.

Wow, that's scary. Those Snake Chaps were worth every penny for sure. Thanks for sharing, and scaring.

As a kid, I killed timber rattlers squirrel hunting outside of Mansfield on Raccoon Creek and also got into a nest of copperheads outside of Turkey Run St. Park as well as Shades St. Park on the trails there. Brown Co. you have both as I have found quite a few timber rattlers there. Anybody hear about the Pi#@ed off neighbor this summer releasing 4doz western diamondbacks (he got them from a friend in Texas) a week before the motorcycle Boogie in Lawrence Co. as my wife,s friend already killed one last month in Springville in her yard. I live in a beautiful hilled woods outside of Crane Naval Base 6 miles west of Williams in Martin Co and you will find copperheads, very few but occasionally a rattler, and now, lots of bobcats. Close to Monroe, Patoka, Dogwood, West Boggs, And Cataract for fishing. Life is good. Anywhere you have weed growth or buck brush or heavy undergrowth where you have small rodents, is snake country.

Nephew saw a large molting copperhead today mowing and trimming one of his job sites in Brown County today. His mind is pretty fried on snakes and going to take a couple of days off and chill out. LOL. I told him it will pass when the weather cools down.
