    I might be in wrong spot but here goes. looking for new depth finder Looked at the Lowrance and the Garmin Striker 7SV. and leaning toward the Garmin.. Anyone with firsthand knowledge to yea or nay this finder would be greatly appreciated.

    What you might do is ask these questions on the main crappie forum under electronics and you will get better response to your question. I am partial to Lowrance but have used Hummingbird many years ago. All these newer fish finders are pretty much spot on and do their thing. I like the HD images they give you. I think the main weakness of all of them is their mapping software of the smaller lakes is lacking as no lake maps will cover every lake where you fish.

    I just put a Humminbird Helix 7 on the front of the boat and am very happy with it. Clarity is outstanding. I agree with Cevans on the mapping for the state of Indiana. My recommendation is to buy as much as you can afford. Good luck.

    I still use and carry paper maps of the lakes I fish. If I can't buy or find them, I print them off USGS topo mapping software that I have from Delorme that shows creek channels and contours of the bottoms. I find it still better for structure fishing to rely on. I guess, call me old school. But it gets the job done.
