There is some bank access to the river. Just south of the refinery, chain of rocks bridge. Horseshoe lake state park, this was an oxbow of the river. Also, North of the refinery, near Alton, maybe a few spots in between. I’d look on satellite view, see what you find.
A bit farther northeast, Gillespie and carlinville city lakes, not sure about bank access, get ahold of them. Otter lake?

My brother fishes the bank out at Chain of Rocks. I'll contact him to get some info to help you out some.

Talked to my brother he said just pick a spot in any of the sloughs out on the island. He also said everything not on the main river has been tough to get to because it's so wet right now. He hasn't had much luck on Horseshoe Lake.

There is also 2 lakes on the island. He didn't go into a lot of detail. He said one is fishable and the other is private.

Below the dam at Carlyle. A lot of room there to fish from bank. Bait shops close also.
