So I am in Chicago for my two daughters to clog in the Thanksgiving Day Parade tomorrow. FYI, clogging has Appalachian mountain origins and is the state dance of North Carolina. I brought an extendable fishing rod and a few jigs with me as we are staying right on the Chicago River right near where it empties into lake Michigan. I am going to try to cast a few times just to "fish" in a state I've never fished before. Not wanting to get into any trouble out of ignorance, is it ok to fish around that area if I get a non-resident day or two license. Not worried if I catch anything or not. Thanks in advance for any info. We are here till Saturday.

I’m of no help, but wishing the girls success and you some peaceful time.

If there are no signs I would say you are probably OK to fish. On the downside keep your head on a swivel, don't turn your back on anyone. There is no place in Chicago that is safe. Above all keep your eyes on your precious daughters, I'm sure you know they are not replaceable. I live 30 miles South of Chicago and that is 30 miles too close!

Yes, you can fish the Chicago River. I highly recommend fishing near the bridge pilings. Be aware the fish all have stunted noses. they bump up against the wall and it shortens there nose, at least that is the way it was explained to me.
I went up there for a week with my son about a decade ago. He took the bar exam and I fished the river. Lots of Bass, Bluegills and some Crappie to be caught. Enjoy your trip and the parade. The wife and I did the parade before Covid, it was a good time. The Chris Kringle market should be open and well worth a trip. They have all sorts of German Christmas decorations. There is parking in the mall across the street. It's an indoor mall, looks more like a high rise building than a mall.

Quick, someone teach me how to fish so I can win this tournament!!!

Thanks for the replies, I fished in a slip right off the river near the hotel and had several bites this morning but never got any to hook up. Could see them snatching at my jig but they were just grabbing the tail. We enjoyed the city, the parade, and met several nice Chicago PD Officers that helped us out a lot too. I never felt unsafe here, but I always had an eye on my surroundings too. Thanks again for the replies.
