Mill Creek Lake

Hello Everyone, I live a little over an hour away and have never fished Mill Creek. I'm not looking for specific fishing spots or anything like that but wondered if anyone could chime in about about the lake this time of year.

I found the limits posted online but wondering if there are certain spots that you shouldn't fish like docks or anything else really. Also, how difficult is it to launch by yourself on a weekend morning? Is there a place to tie up while parking the truck?

I'm sure there is a good amount of pleasure boat traffic this time of year but is it fishable on a Sunday morning before lunch? Again, I don't need anyone's fishing spots just looking for any information I can find. Thank you for any help you can provide!

I live right next to Mill Creek and fish it often.

IMO, this time of year most of the lake is unfishable on the weekends between 10 AM and 5pm due to pleasure boaters. There is a no-wake zone around and to the north of the ramp that you could fish later in the day. The other no wake zones to the south are usually packed with swimmers and anchored up pontoon boats on the weekends.

Other than the dock at the boat ramp and the campground, all the docks on the lake are private. There's nothing against fishing around the private docks from a boat, though I have had the owners give me the stink eye from time to time.

Launching by yourself is no issue. There is a dock by the ramp with a couple dozen spots to tie up, and the ramp has 4 lanes so no issue leaving your truck for a minute while you deal with the boat.

Thank you, Sir. I appreciate you taking the time to reply. I figured it would get rough in the afternoon.

Most likely will be off the water by noon. I usually don't fish docks, but wanted to know if it was allowed. Would hate to break any rules.

All lakes are a little different and I didn't want to be that guy!

Well I ended up bringing a buddy with me to check out the lake this morning. We didn't explore too far from the boat launch but definitely enjoyed the morning. You guys that fish there often have a beautiful lake!

We used livescope to find the thermocline right away in a large cove to the South and a lot of fish suspended just above it in the 10-12' deep range. We spider rigged though placing baits at those depths and struggled!

We fished different speeds and had our baits in fish pretty often they just didn't seem Intrested. All the technology in the world and those suckers still win some days!

We met a very nice gentleman who offered us up some areas to try with brush nearby also.

We trolled over and through some of those spots also and failed miserably. Some of the structure and open water fish were being spooked by the boat as we approached as we could see them bail away on the scope.

We should have stayed back and pitched slip bobbers. Or long lined to get our baits away from the boat in the open water areas.

We caught about 10 bass and as many crappie and everything was returned to the water.

You don't have to catch a ton of fish somewhere for your day to be a success sometimes it's nice just to try some place new.
