Hit Rend with a buddy this weekend. We limited out early on Friday with Kyle. He didn't fish much. He kind of coached us on using the Live Scope. Unfortunately that was all the success we had last weekend. We went out later that day and tried slow trolling the stump fields. Used a lot of different plasticsand a few lures with one small crappie for the effort. There was a predicted thunderstorm that had turned into a 90° cloudless day with no breeze. We got baked. I told myself the weather. We cruised down to the 154 bridge to get out of the sun and spotted a lot of fish on Mikes Hummingbird. I threw the arsonal at them and couldn't get them on the line. We hung it up around 4:30 and headed back to the hotel. Next morning was supposed to be thunderstorms again, (which didn't come) so we slept in as did the other boats at the hotel. We got out around 8:30 and tried slow trolling the stump and tree lines again under a cloudy sky with some nice rollers on the lake. Picked up one small crappie again and that was it. After a couple of hours we decided to head in for lunch. Figured we would try some live bait and headed to the bait shop for minnows and hit the bridge after a predicted thunderstorm actually hit. Came down buckets for awhile and we put in after the storm ended. The Hummingbird showed us fish all over the place. I tried 5 different Bobby Garlands, swimming and jigging. Tried the gulp alive minnows, live minnows on a crappie rig and on a jig. Threw a couple of different joes flies. Thought maybe the vibration would draw them in in the dingy water. No go. Saw a couple of swirls so I tried a small popper. Nothing. Used a crappie sized johnson minnow type spoon, a hair jig, a small bluegill fly, a larger fly with a minnow. There were a few other methods and lures I put out there this weekend, but the lake sure made me feel insecure about my fishing abilities. A weekend like that sure can humble a fisherman.
I did check out that state campground and it looked very nice so I may try the lake again if the wife and I come down there to camp sometime. Hope the fish cooperate a bit better next time.
