I had the same thing happen on my car plate sticker.
I also got a license expired ticket to the tune of a $30.00 fine.
I think their reasoning is that the trailer or vehicle was on the road while the sticker was expired.

I was on the IL dmv website and it doesn't even offer the ST class plate.
I don't drink anything stronger than Pop.
And Pop doesn't care what he drinks

Check out Carol E’s License Service. We have two locations locally. Cahokia and Milstadt, IL. 618-332-0331 and 618-600-5537, respectively. My neighbor (mower trailer) was able to reclassify his expired TA license to an ST designation over the phone. I called the Millstadt office and was told I could reclassify for $70 and it would the be lifetime. I just paid the $118, good through April 2022, so will wait until next year. But, they understood it was a boat trailer and had no problem with issuing an ST trailer license.

I have ST plates for both my boat trailer, and my 5x10 utility trailer....got them last year, and the lady at the DMV told me the state just probably hasn't figured out all the money they are losing. She said this may last a month, or may last a couple years, but with as corrupt and money-hungry Illinois is, don't expect it to last but a couple more years. She then assured me that those who have the ST tags will be "grandfathered in" if anything changes. SO, I told my dad, who the day before just went and renewed his registration for his boat trailer for the $118. So, he went back and asked his DMV about the ST tags, went ahead and bought it, and he should never have to worry about it again. He got his renewal in the mail the other day for the regular one....threw it in the trash!

Ended up getting the ST plate and not looking back. I should put that $100 I saved towards some fishing lessons!
