Talked to Lauren, the county officer who also covers the lake, late last fall.

He had expressed concerns about the crappie catches he witnessed in the spring when the park system was overrun with shore fishermen, due to the infinite wisdom of the state powers that be, in shutting down over 3/4 of the state facilities during the spring pandemic panic.

Not a lot of rule breakers, but a very large number of legal creels were taken with the huge crowds.

Being a county system, they were open during the gooberment restrictions and got pounded, as they were pulling out fish left and right by the swimming area.

That explains why I caught so few last year. Between the over harvest and musky meals we might not have many left to go around.

Clint at the Lakeside concession on Shabbona said the same thing about crowds. Lake was pounded

Once the state lifted some of the restriction, his boats were fully rented out everyday thru the end of the season and the park was packed 7 days a week, weather permitting.

Last spring was the first time I had seen Heideke use the overflow parking.

Thousands and thousands of people with nothing to do but spend time outdoors, crammed into fewer open facilities.

    Oh well.

May have to target some lake a little further away.

Good Luck to everyone this season.

Closing state lakes during the early Covid panic ranks right up there in stupid pet tricks this state has ever done. Remember this when it is time to vote for governor next.
