I went 3 weekends ago and kept 25 whites. I caught them on the banks, a mix of clay and some riprap. Caught many shorts but scratched out some nice ones. I did not fish any humps or troll at all. Got a couple real big ones but not like the jumbos that next month will see. Went last Saturday with the wife and pooches to swim and boat ride. Did not keep any and only got one big guy, 4-5 small keepers and about 10 smalls. Fished the same places, only later in the day and only about 1-1.5 hours of fishing at the most. Used mostly a chart. fleck 3" swim bait. Still a little early. I guess the humps might be better or trolling but I don't care much to do that. Didn't crappie fish any. I'll keep an eye out for your black boat nats!

I typically fish Carlyle a few times for crappie in the spring around the spawn. I am trying to teach myself the trolling techniques for the rest of the year. I never hear people speak of spider rigging Carlyle and can’t say I’ve ever seen anyone there trying it. Is there much success to it at Carlyle? Thanks.

CrappieKraft I am in the same boat, so to speak. I’m set up for spider rigging, and would like to explore it at Carlyle as well. My best guess is around Allen Branch and Hazlet might produce using this technique, but curious if others feel/know the same. I also haven’t seen anyone cranking for Crappie. That might be an approach in these areas as well. Open for suggestions as I would like to fish this lake more often if these techniques make sense.

I know a lot of the crappie masters guys spider rig fished it last fall for the tournament. I have thought about trying cranks as well on that lake but have not tried yet.

Good job on a hot day! Sounds like a good dinner. We are going to try some trout tonight. Took a little trip to the white river a few weeks ago and caught my first trout in 45 years when my dad took me to Bennet Springs. LOL he used to say trout fishing wasn't real fishing...he was a die hard bass snob.
