Thread: Central Illinois Boat Carpet

To be honest I have no idea why any normal carpet layer could not handle this job. I am sure they would probably charge a little extra because it is not a normal job but this should be a cake walk for most.

Might be worth a phone call or two. Heck you could even bring the boat to them. Most carpet layers are not use to working out of their shop.

I was lucky enough to have a friend who installs carpet for a living who did mine for me. I ordered my carpet from boat carpet.com out of Indiana and was well satisfied. I had checked with a couple auto upholstery shops which both said they could do it but my buddy was a lot cheaper and I got it done quicker. Word of advice ,if you can find someone to cut carpet and install for you, you could save a lot of money if you take your boat apart yourself. My friend and I found that was the most time consuming part of the job. We removed the front deck,console and all compartment lids,rod lockers and even removed floor. You probably wouldn't have to go to this extreme, but mine did turn out nice doing it that way. He wrapped carpet under all edges. After we got done I kinda understood why the upholstery shops were pretty high!

Just replaced my carpet a couple of months ago. Like said taking everything apart is really the hard part. Putting carpet down is the easy part. I made sure I didn't cut it at all so I could use it as a template for the new stuff. Cut then put glue down with a trowel. Took me 3 days to remove everything and 1 1/2hr to lay carpet.

Why didn't you go with vinyl? Man I hate the carpet in my boat

I already had some carpet from my first boat I got for a great price. Its been sitting in my garage forever.

Lake Sara Marina would do it and do a great job.

Remove carpet and spray Tuff Coat liner in! Did mine in 2010 and still holding strong!
