If you look in the rules book it states 3 poles are allowed in Il if you are trolling. That being said I E-mail the DNR and asked them their definition of trolling. their response said ( and I am paraphrasing) being in constant movement. so i you stop over a spot you are no longer trolling.

If not posted they are ways!.......I have been check by IL DNR on the river cat fishing with 10 rods. I have them all with a small metal tag with my name and address which considers them a bank line. This was a hot topic based off article in the Peoria Journal star with a picture of a catfish guide on the Rock River (state advised legal). I just fished a lake over the weekend with a spider rig and used 6 rods.

wilbur you are correct. rend and shelbyville are the only that allow people to spider rig with 3 poles. but it legal in all IL waters even 2 pole only lake as long as you are trolling. if you are somewhere else besides those two lakes most likely you will get a ticket then have to fight it in court. i am sticking to two poles.

plateboater if you are catfishing. this also applies to lakes that allows bank and trotlines up to what the lake allows legally. i have fished with up to 25 poles out of one boat with a few friends to help.

Actually you are incorrect, the two pole only rule in most state managed lakes trumps the three pole statewide limit, just as a site specific creel limit would trump the statewide limit for whatever species. If you are moving (trolling) in any lake that does not have a two pole site specific reg, you can use three poles for trolling. If you are still fishing, the 50 hook limit would apply.

I don't know about Kincaid, but I do know Carlyle is fine. As a general rule, most lakes managed by IDNR are 2 pole limit. Corps Lakes (Rend, Shelbyville, Carlyle) follow statewide regs as do the streams and rivers. DNR website shows all the site specific regulations for each lake in the state.
