This would be about my 3-4th year crappie fishing. I am a die hard waterfowler first. Last year i bought a cabin on the Il river near Kampsville . And was curious if anybody has had sucess crappie fishing the river . I dont have si just di so searching for brush would be tough. Not asking for your honey hole just some pointers in the right direction. Thanks Jbird

Not ever fished it but I'm sure you can find some slabs. Look for some sloughs and creeks that you can get into and give em a try.
Give a man a fish and feed him for a day.
Teach a man to fish and he'll sit in a boat and drink beer all day!

I don't know of any spots down by you. There are several up by Peoria, Chillicothe, Lacon area.
    HOI Crappie Club
Where family and friends come to compete for a little more than bragging rights.

Quick, someone teach me how to fish so I can win this tournament!!!

I have heard people talk about how there are straight up hogs in the river, from what one fella was telling me he has caught them in peoria around docks at peoria boat club, and down at an area known as duck creek. Personally i have never fished this area for crappies, just walleyes up in lasalle county where i am from. But the way the guy was telling me if you find them they are big. wish i could help more.

Several years ago I lived in Alton, Il and fished the IL river area. I second the Otter Creek suggestion on the IL river. Might try docks around Grafton on IL river (don't know if there are any restrictions now on how close you can fish to a dock.) Also the creek that runs into Piasa Harbor area (on Mississippi River if I remember right, between Grafton and Alton on the IL side). I mostly fished for largemouth and white bass as well as catfish when I lived in Alton, but did do some crappie fishing as a guest in someone elses boat in these areas. Good luck!
