Lake Mattoon Today 05-15-11
Had a pretty good trip To Lake Mattoon today. Caught most around docks in the mouth of coves. One went thirteen the rest 12-10 Nice size Crappie. Caught on old number 111. Shallow 2-3 foot. Caught many small males really shallow. The fish had some eggs.

yeah I have a kick but rain suit. It was not to bad if you was out of the wind. I warmed my hands by putting my hands in the water. Water temp was 65-67 degrees

Every since the flooding which has turned the water color chocolate milk color, the fishing has been extremely poor for crappie. You can catch some if you get right on top of them. Very few folks have been fishin' which would pretty much sum up the fishing, poor. Some days, I just catch up on my work chores waiting for better fishing conditions. There was a good shad spawn but the fish never followed them in or wouldn't bite anyway.
