    Smile opinions on used boats

Hi, new to the board. My favorite fishing is for crappie. Retired now so I can fish 4-5 times a week. Try to fish Lake Shelbyville at least once per week. Currently fishing out of a 88 16 ft Ozark tri-hull 75 HP, but blew the power trim last Friday. It will cost more to fix it then the boat is worth so I need to upgrade to another used boat. I would like a heavier bass boat for a little more stability in the wind. I started to look at 2001-2003 vintage boats with generally 150 hp motors. My questions are is it better to get an older ranger then a few years newer something else? Any opinions on what boats not to look at? What about engines? Anything to shy away from or definitely something to look for? I currently have everything I need in electronics and trolling motors so I'm looking for a reliable boat to mount everything. I only started fishing in 2003 and the Ozark was my first boat so I'm still kind of new at this. I thought this might be a fun thread for boats designed for crappie fishing.

It is tough to pick a boat to do it all,I personally own and run a 2007 Ranger Fisherman 620 vs,it can do just about anything but it is tall and catches wind and is hard to manuever in tight places, but is great when the water gets rough! It is a great walleye boat for verticle jigging and trolling, this is my 6th boat. There are boats like this for sale on Walleye Central along with other makes and models and sizes, there are many good brands for sale.I would say a 18' lund Pro v would be a good choice if you want a aluminum boat,as for fiberglass a older Ranger 692 or a Ranger 618 vs would be a good choice and not break the bank.As for bass boats they are nice for getting in and around the verticle timber and stumps, but the ride is a bit rough on windy days, that is why I traded in my 2003 Ranger 520 bass boat for what I have now, good luck as there are many great deals out there with low hours ,and having something with a warranty sure gives a person piece of mind! Hard to beat the new Mercury optimax engines and the evinrude e-tec ,good gas mileage!

Figure out what you can spend then get as much boat as you can for it... This game is all money... Biggest thing you have to decide is if you want low sides or high sides, for you comfort and safety...
