Yack tracks
Trying ice fishing again after many years of not being on the ice. Went out today and the ice was very smooth and I realized I need traction.
Any thoughts on the best ice cleats for the money? I read that some guys screw sheet metal screws into the soles of their boots. Not sure I want to go that route.

stablicers are the bees knees. they are awesome. i have had a pair for over 10 years and still in great shape. my dad has had a pair for a lot longer than that. whatever you decide you have to have cleats of some kind so you don't fall and break an elbow or tear up your shoulder.

What model of stablicers are you using. I see there are different models and many different prices? Thanks

I just went the sheet metal screw route #6 x 1/2" used them yesterday for the first time, worked fine and CHEAP! box of 100 about 6.00 . Can still drive the truck and walk in and out of shop with them on.
I use the self tapping gutter screws for ice and stream trout fishing ( hip boots and chest waders). All you need is 3 in the heal. I prefer the hex headed ones. I have tried other styles but not any where near as comfortable or grip any better. Also If you need to go into a building just hold your heal up a little and the screws do not touch. If like me sometimes I need to go into the house for a item I forgot so I do not need to be removing cleats.
I have a dedicated set of boots set up with ice cleats, when I get to the lake,I change into the cleats unless there is snow on the ice, cleats usually are more troublesome on the snow.
