Just a few of my bucks taken .:D
Here's a 12 pointer my son Allen got with his bow a few years ago. Green scored 188 & 3/8ths. That's the largest either of us have ever killed.
This buck, although not a record by any means will always be quite memorable... You see when I can't take time to go to the "real huntin' grounds" I slip out back of the barn in a wooded area that has "rural subdivisions" backed up to it. It's maybe 75 acres or so, but the deer seem to be fairly nocturnal. I made a commitment to myself not to shoot any does in an effort to assist in the population, and they make a heck of a decoy. I would see several does in the evenings which is when I would do most of my "quick" hunts after work. Have only seen a couple of bucks and they were spikes over the years.
I had been in the stand about half an hour and it was fairly quiet. Not really expecting to see much, I pulled out the latest ODL and commenced to reading. Shortly I heard what sounded like someone sneezing. My first thought was one of the subby neighbors was taking a nature walk, but to my suprise as I looked in the direction of the sneezing, I saw this buck swinging his head and blowing like the mosquitoes were runnin' up his shnoze. I put down the mag, and got my bow as he moved in from about 60 yds. Like picture perfect at 20 yds. he hits the small trail and turns broadside. I let him take a couple of steps to put his head behind a tree and drew. I watched the white feathers blow through him, but he took a couple of "what was that" bounds and stood at 40 yds. with his butt towards me. I started second guessing my shot, but then I saw his hind legs start to wobble and down he went right there. Sweet!
Now that's a war-horse!! I've had some serious heart throbs trying to get to full draw, or holding full draw on some decent bucks, but dang..........that one would have caused cadiac arrest!! Congrats to your son!! Gotta ask........that's a midwest US buck, ain't it??
