    Default The Last Ride

Been a few weeks back , my extra time has been REALLY skinny lately , but I thought maybe an update from us over here in Texas .
Last weekend of doe and spike season was upon us and myself and my 5 year old grandson hunted it HARD ! We fought howling winds of up to 43 mph gusts with a sustained wind at 24 mph in our stand one day with our right hand fingers crossed ...lol , We stalked some deer on our hands knees and crawled across the ground on our bellies too another day , and we hid behind hay bales in one field and we for sure scared some deer and in the end we even got to shoot " at " some deer as well.
We hunted 2.5 days total and saw over a hundred total deer , saw some nice bucks and some really far away deer and some not so far away . Now mind you this, most of the deer were well aware of it still being hunting season and not very cooperative. I missed one doe way out there one day at around 200 plus yards , I hammered a second time at a doe not so way out there, at about 150 yards out and put a decent chest shot on her and we lost her in the high grass and woods about 30 minutes after dark never to be seen again. Put some trackers on her in the morning and still nada. So on to our Last Ride we went .....
As time grew skinny and desperation was setting in, we took a small one home to be consumed as soon as possible .....
It was a great time , asked him if he was excited the day on our Last ride to hunt our last hunt and he said YES pappy Definitely ....!
and about 27 seconds later he was sleeping like a rock in the back seat as we went on that there Last Ride ....
He took his deer home the next morning and promptly had his dad make him some venison hamburger helper out of some of the grind and told his dad this " I need a BIG bowl please " .......
good times for sure , priceless no doubt ...and it truly don't get much better ...
until I get more time to post again , KABOOM is still the word

For sure a trooper , as we left the last day with the deer in our truck , he looked at the lake and said ….”pappy, to bad we don’t have our rods , we could ketch some fish too if we did “

Sometimes the easiest hunts are toughest bro , we set our first sit in the best deer whacking spot you can ever imagine and saw ONLY doves and squirrels and one raccoon

Let me tell you a little secret bro , one spot we hit has 19 lakes and ponds , everyone we passed was full of ducks bro …..just saying, I thought about ya as the huge flights got up in the air , was a dandy mix of waterfowl for sure …..
One thing that will likely occur with him , he will probably want to duck hunt someday is my guess

Not easy to hunt or fish with... but those smiles. Those smiles make the world right.
