to each his own is my thoughts on how he or she wants to "manage" whatever property they own , but to be VERY sure , mother nature is WAY out of whack , with VERY few caring about what it might need to help take care of itself .....
in my part of the world the used to be peanut farmers that the government subsidized basically stripped the area of nutrients need for the local flora and fauna to take care of themselves , they created huge swaths of waste lands that only grass can grow on "IF" you help it grow , and even the local fellas in the area know full well the lasting effects they put on the west Texas range land .management of the unnatural balance that was self inflicted is the key to putting things back right for the future generations to enjoy , sadly though many have a zero clue about how to do it and or care about doing it ....
there is substantial cost and work involved to make right what is wrong and very few are interested in the "fix" .....just saying

Your dissertation is very good on issues with vegetation (trees, crops, etc.) - lessons to be learned from the "Dust Bowl" my family dealt with. I agree with what you state. Animal wildlife is a different issue. No emogies added to be cute.

Trying to restore habitat and improve it after mankind destroys it , for the wildlife to get back into full on flourish mode is quite difficult, finding the right minerals to restore the out of balance soil and adding native plants and brush back to the wasteland created by humans is a real tough job , full on observation and supplemental minerals , food supplies ,and water sources with cover added are key …..
Am about to drill a well to add the main ingredient we lack on our place soon , it’s only 6,000 greenbacks and then the added cost to create the pond …..no worries though, the cost is well worth the viewing opportunities it creates and the splendor of what used to be that follows such endeavors, choosing to not do anything to help a heavily burdened environment is not me ….
And in the end , the recreational activities that follow this train of thought are almost endless as well …..

Beautiful deer. I would guess 3 years old due to lack of bulk in shoulders and belly . That being said location changes physical looks from area to area . We have deer in Mississippi that have migrated down the river systems that are beast compared to the deer transplanted here from the Florida everglades . Cross breading them to native deer yields several variations . Having lived/hunted many areas in this state I had to adjust to such variations . Pretty deer for sure .

Stop by your county farm service agency NRCS they probably have a cost share program for pond building,wells, and habitat restoration. Or they can send you to a dozen other agencies that that have endless money for projects like that.

he is actually at least 6 this year , we started watching him 3 years ago when he was a pretty nice 9 point , I thought he was at least 3 or possibly 4 the first time we saw him ....
aging bucks is tricky business , lots of folks say to look for this and that and in some cases it rings true , but when I raised deer back when , one buck we bought because of his totally symmetrical 6 x 6 rack , that looked for sure to be only 2 or 3 and was actually 6 years old and a really small deer at that .
when they are raised inside high fences and ear tagged ,there is no guess work on them , just saying

when slab fixes me back up and I can load images again , I will show you him at some other angles , he does have a belly and a bit of a sway back as well .....but as stated he don't look near as old as he is for sure ....

not sure about that these days , they used to be gung ho to help out , nowadays not so much .....
