Thread: I saw the white puff a smoke from the rifle >>>

My daddy used to sing that old song sometimes ....
my game camera caught my follow up shot 2 days ago .....
so here is the tale of the hunt ,
We hit out place to do a bit of camping and hunt after thanksgiving dinner .
I am VERY wind conscious and the wind was wrong for my sits until Friday afternoon when it turned for a short time.
The deer were VERY active from sun up until we left with our prize well before dark.
Saw a big buck herding does RIGHT by our trailer in the open field at 7 am as I drank coffee!
Saw another big buck herding does at 12 noon as well in the open field beside our trailer !
Told mini KABOOM and mom we are going as soon as the wind lays down and changes direction , according to the weather man about 3 pm ........
3:30 pm they sat in one of our family blinds and 175 yards away I sat in the one person .
We use 3 sets of eyes and they had specific instructions to watch MY BACK !
We had barely set up and here comes a spike across the field from my right , no sooner than he got to me my phone buzzed and I was warned of a 4 point coming in from right behind me !
the 4 point crossed the road to my left and the spike to my right , we have agreed that the spike is a meat deer and we discussed between the 3 of us if I should take him .
It appeared to be a perfect plan until the wife said DON'T shoot him and scare way the deer , the BIG one might be close by >>>>>>>>
about 15 minutes later he left and along came a momma doe and a fawn doe and button buck . like clock work he came back and followed them around . He started to chase mom just a bit and I took some video , it was only half hearted though and I set down my phone ....thank goodness for sure >>>>
he moves his attention to the button buck and starts to ease into that maybe you need to go away mode .
Still thinking it is WAY to early at 4pm to see a big buck I watch semi ill prepped for what takes place NEXT !
OUT comes the BIG ten to let every one know who is BOSS boy and Ketchn has an almost pee in his pants moment as he grabs the rifle !
He turns to leave and the rifle is up and on him , he is walking away and my mind says PLEASE turn a bit for some real KABOOM .......
Sure enough he turns at about 40 yards in front of me and KABOOM in the shoulder and it becomes REALLY REALLY on fire action right then and there ! He literally reared up like a wild stallion on his back legs and jumped right over my 8 foot tall feeder .
Hits the ground thrashing in the leaves and the dust is flying and out of the cloud he comes on 3 legs running away to my left . Being the king of KABOOM I put another one out there to try and put him down . No way as he leaves in the brush and the freak out begins >>>>
Down and out of the blind in a flash goes me after him into the brush , No blood .....
not a trace of him and trust me on this ....I asked GOD to please help me find him.
mini KABOOM is texting and all I said was i got the 10 and he ran off ....
Well at this point I stopped searching and thought I herd hooves thumping and maybe a grunt ? I eased that way a bit and THERE he was trying to get up to leave AGAIN !
He finally quit for good and I was just about as happy as I have ever been on a hunt !
Mini came running thru the brush with a huge smile as mom followed ,she was about as excited as me and mom as well !
The KABOOM crew loaded him up and thus begins the tough part of putting him in the freezer .....
p.s. missed the follow up shot on the run ,but my game camera got it and i grabbed a few still shots as the rifle went off .....pretty cool video for sure

I grew up listening to my dad sing those same Marty Robbins songs. I am still a big fan of those cowboy story songs.


Darn nice buck too, Man! KABOOM is the word……..with a Big Iron on his hip…….Big Iron on his hiiiiiiipppppppp.
