    Yep, if he makes it through both periods of the rut... and kicks into survival mode... he just might make it.
    Based on your observations, I would say his odds are 60% against him making it through the rutting periods.
    I agree, he certainly has some trophy potential over the next years... if he can see his way clear.
    Perhaps he'll learn a couple of (non-fatal) hunting lessons between now and then.

    Well make it a challenge,string up the recurve....and "try" and hunt him after he teases you enough,you might change your mind....KaBoom!

    Make it a new challenge. Kill that buck with a recurve and it will be a trophy this year.

    I actually caught a real big buck in pig trap one time , let me tell you this , it was an ordeal for both of us beyond comparison .
    Letting him go was almost impossible , he wanted to get out bad and he also wanted to gore me real bad .

    we both eventually went on our way and I saw him a week or so later with some does .
    wasn't something I want to do again for sure .

    Watched a video yesterday on a fella releasing a bear he had caught in a wolf trap. Seeing that ordeal made me glad I was on my side of the screen. Talking about pucker factor

    every buck with a good solid rack except for maybe 2 are never seen on our place after the year we see them .
    2 have made it for 2 years and now both of them have gone missing as well .
    this guy was a nice 9 last year and this is his second year with a decent rack .
    sad to say it is likely his last , its me against the local yeehaws and them out of town one bag of corn visitors I tell ya ....
    nobody in them parts cept me ,cares about growing racks for sure
