Snakes... Yes, you are correct. I have seen a couple of diamondbacks there. 30 yards behind the deer is a 60-70 acre wetlands/pond with water moccasins and monster alligators. We are seeing more Raccoons each year, about half of our place is wetlands so the raccoons usually have plenty of crawdads to eat.

Being gored with antlers tends to take some of the fight out of you

I shot one when I was a teen and didn’t get a solid hit. He was bigger than any I’d ever seen. He took the hit, snarled and screeched loud and took out after me. I turned tail and ran. Didn’t even think about chambering another round and trying again. Never found the carcass so I guess he survived. I learned a new respect for them things that day.

we used to sneak up in the dark to a pond we managed to pluck a few off the fish feeder at night .
one would run the spot light that got turned on as we crested the tank dam .
the other was pump gunning number 4 buck shot .
never had one go down even though they got rolled all over the place .
pretty tough to take 12 guage fire at short range with buckshot and run off for sure .

some coons are meaner than others for sure , ours seem to back the deer down most of the time , never seen a deer really go after one

Interesting thread. No one mentioned they are also good eating.

"Good eating" like most cooking depends on prep and experience of the cook. Not to mention the carcass remains can be off putting for some.
