Numbers are in the toilet here in KS and we have no hogs. First time since I started hunting them circa 1996 that I havent shot a bird.
all i know here is we went from so many turkey in flocks so large they covered fields to we rarely see them in most spots these days ,it seems to have followed the influx of hogs to me , but our quail went that way too back when and there used to be a covey in every lil weedy spot around here .
some blamed it on fire ants ,some on coons and in my case some of it is probably hogs is my guess . but at the same time i often wonder why the drastic loss in the last 15 years or so , turkey used to be nuisance animals in lots of spots and in those same spots there are zero now ?

My property has been enhanced for ground nesting birds since I bought it. There has been near zero reproduction. We got flooded out in 19. Shouldve been a good hatch last year but nothing. This year we had rain 23 days of may which isnt good for poults. They have noticed for years that we arent gettinf the receuitment we once were. Habitat, weather, And predators all have roles. Racoon numbers have exploded with the proliferation of deer feeders here. I definitely think that is an issue.

the deer feeders do bring in the coons for sure , might be part of the problem as well .
the wildlife local folks are trying to get me to enhance mine for ground nesting like your place .
but somehow it makes me think that there is likely a main culprit rather than a bunch together .
my vote is still mostly the hogs ,but coons are bad too ,along with skunks and possums
