Thread: WHERE ?

Season doesn't start until 17th here. Found several contenders yesterday though.

Same here MCG1... I'm ready tho..

we had to pull down a dirt road off the highway friday .
girls had to make a visit the woods stop .
pulled the truck to a halt ....out of the brush came a whopper gobbler runnin straight down the dirt road and then took to the air !
i love when they take off , sure are big beautiful birds when the spread it all out and go to the wings .

Beautiful birds for sure, just like when you spread open the smoker door!

Found a huge bird a couple weeks ago but he dropped off the map this last week. Pinpointed a decent gobbler Thursday and went back mid day Friday to find the perfect spot. Season opened Saturday morning and I stealthily snuck in to set up. Dropped my glasses near the decoy and as I went to pick them up 2 birds took off about 20 yards from me! Not the fly by I deserved! I was sure they were roosted another 100 yards back, WRONG. So after hoping I could call in another bird from there I ended up finally near a field/opening where the birds like to strut and called in a nice bird from long distance, only to have him hang up almost in range while a live hen was calling to him.I had a chance still but a vehicle on the forest service road spooked him. Still, great turkey adventure for that day. Today was even better though.
