Hope the wrong game warden doesn't see this post. Those are protected snakes in most states. Texas for sure.

I knew some folks that handled snakes like that in church. I knew there was far too much devil in me to try.
Maybe they will bite this one……

Texas does not have stipulations on Western diamondback rattle snakes to the best of my knowledge .
If it does it is for sure not in the county it was removed from .
we do have several species of rattlers that are protected ,but not that one to the best of my knowledge ?

This snake is "crotalus atrox" in latin ,other wise known as a western diamondback . not near as large as an eastern and has a really serious case of bad attitude when encountered .
they max out around 6 feet long and the eastern can attain almost 8 ....eastern rattlers have become pretty rare from what I know
habitat destruction and the reduction of gopher tortoise populations are the main culprit from what I have heard .
we have a real healthy population of the western versions in lots of spots in Texas .

them fellas that shot it are dead eye folks that about never miss , that was the third one in camp they had to deal with .
they will gas the cabin this weekend and a few more will likely go down the trail .

If most of you don't know I have always had a warm spot in my heart for snakes .
I don't fear them and often do my best to make sure they go on their wat when I encounter them .
I do have a respect for the venomous versions though and know they can deal some bad cards in the I will poke you game .
That particular location is crawling in western diamond backs and has for years ,many years ago they moved a trailer not far from that cabin and found over 200 under it .....
